Every year the Master of Public Administration faculty host an eCelebration of Graduates in order to congratulate MPA students who have completed the requirements necessary to receive a diploma. Family and friends are also invited to attend the event to celebrate and wish graduates well on the next stage of their professional and academic journeys. All current students are encouraged to attend to cheer on the graduates they have taken classes with.
"For the longest time, we wanted a way to celebrate our MPA graduating students, regardless of where they live and learn. The eCelebration gives us a way to do that,” said Dr. Leora Waldner, a member of the eCelebration planning team.
“And the best part is that friends and family can come cheer for the graduates,” added Dr. Tammy Esteves. “After the event, the graduates usually stick around to reminisce and catch up with their favorite teachers and classmates, and sometimes that’s the highlight of the event.”
Dr. Dayna McDaniel remarked, “The first year we did it, the innovation team spent an entire year prototyping the one-hour eCelebration: but it was easily one of the most rewarding things we’ve done in our careers.”
A team of MPA faculty and Ed Tech experts worked side-by-side to design and deploy the first event in 2015.
In all three eCelebration years, one hundred percent of the participants responded in the post-event survey that they would “definitely” recommend the event to future graduating students. One hundred percent of the survey respondents indicated they were satisfied or extremely satisfied with the event. Participant comments included the following:
“Enjoyed the event. Each professor truly cares about the program, school, and most importantly the students. I am honored to be a part of the program. Thank you, TROY!!!...”
“I just want to say thank you for being considerate enough to give us this.”
“It was wonderful! Thanks to everyone for all their hard work to make this possible and special!”
“The program was awesome! Well planned and, despite being virtual, it was an excellent experience.”
The TROY MPA 2017 eCelebration of Graduates was held live via WebEx on the afternoon of June 25th. It included welcome remarks from MPA Program Director, Dr. Terry Anderson and featured guest speaker and National President of Blacks in Government, Inc., Dr. Doris Sartor. The eCelebration included special student spotlight stories and prize giveaways as well.
